Tustin, (Feb. 12, 1999) -- Tustin-based Ricoh Electronics, Inc. donated $1,000 in January to the Tustin Learning Center, one of a network of homework help and tutoring centers operated by T.H.I.N.K. Together. The Center is located on the Thorman Elementary School campus.
The Tustin Learning Center, which officially opened to students on January 13, currently serves 50 children with the hopes of expanding the program to serve 100 children in the future. The Center emphasizes academics, and students can receive homework help and tutoring both individually and in small groups. Students also have opportunities to work on computers and participate in enrichment programs including arts and crafts.
Volunteers from the local community serve as tutors. The Center is open from 2:00 - 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday and from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Fridays. The Center is a community partnership of T.H.I.N.K. Together, St. Cecilia Church, The Tustin Community Foundation , the City of Tustin and The Irvine Company. "We think the Center is already a tremendous success judging by the fact the students don't want to go home at the end of the day," claims Nancy Lev, Principal at Thorman Elementary School.
"We know the need for after-school homework assistance is great. Ricoh Electronics is pleased to be able to support this valuable program for local students," according to Victor Draper, Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning. Thorman Elementary School is one of Ricoh Electronics, Inc.'s six designated school/business partners in Orange County.
